At nymble, we know that tackling obesity requires more than just technology—it requires world-class expertise. That’s why we’ve assembled leading experts who not only understand the science of obesity but are also at the forefront of new developments. With decades of experience treating patients, our Global Obesity Advisory Board ensures that nymble remains a leader in obesity research and innovation while always staying true to our mission of putting people first.

Today, we’re introducing two of the world’s most respected experts in obesity science—Professor Carel le Roux and Dr. Arya M. Sharma—to join our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Megha Poddar, in founding the Global Obesity Advisory Board for nymble. Their advocacy and research have transformed the way obesity is understood and treated, and we’re beyond excited to have them in our corner.

Introducing Professor Carel le Roux

Professor Carel le Roux graduated from medical school in Pretoria, South Africa, completed his specialist training in metabolic medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospitals and the Hammersmith Hospital. He obtained his PhD from Imperial College London where he later took up a faculty position. He moved to University College Dublin for the Chair in Chemical Pathology and Metabolic Medicine and is now a Director of the Metabolic Medicine Group. He also holds the position of Professor of Metabolic Medicine at Ulster University and Extra-ordinary Professor of Chemical Pathology at the University of Pretoria. He currently coordinates an Innovative Medicine Initiative project on obesity. He has previously received the Irish Research Council Researcher of the Year award, a President of Ireland Young Researcher Award, the Irish Research Council Laureate Award, a Clinician Scientist Award from the National Institute for Health Research in the UK, and a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship for his work on how the gut talks to the brain.

Introducing Dr. Arya M Sharma

Dr. Arya Mitra Sharma was a Professor of Medicine and Alberta Health Services Chair in Obesity Research and Management at the University of Alberta and the Medical Director of the Alberta Health Services Obesity Program (2007–2021). In 2006, he founded and served as the Scientific Director (2006–2021) of the Canadian Obesity Network (now Obesity Canada) and was also the past president of the Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons. He also served on numerous committees of professional organizations, including The Obesity Society (TOS) and the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO). Since 2021, he is retired (Professor Emeritus) and freelances occasionally as a speaker and research, educational, and strategic consultant for commercial and non-commercial organizations.

The Chair of our Board - Dr. Megha Poddar

Dr. Megha Poddar is a Canadian Endocrinologist and Obesity Medicine Specialist, distinguished as a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and an Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) at McMaster University. As the Medical Director of the Medical Weight Management Center of Canada, Dr. Poddar is deeply involved in patient education, knowledge translation, and program development, where she has contributed to innovative solutions in obesity and diabetes management.

Dr. Poddar has played a pivotal role in shaping obesity education materials, including contributions to the McMaster Textbook of Internal Medicine and the Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines. Her research as a principal investigator spans numerous randomized controlled trials, focusing on type 2 diabetes and obesity, and she has contributed to the ICHOM Patient-Reported Outcome Data Set for Obesity. An advocate for enhanced obesity care and education, Dr. Poddar mentors healthcare providers nationally and internationally, championing comprehensive, patient-centered management of metabolic diseases.
